At some point, if Iran does not stop its nuclear program, there's going to be a fight.
And that attack may come from Iran's own Islamic neighbours.
They're already fed up with Iranian interference in their domestic affairs:
"The six-nation Gulf Cooperation Council called on arch rival Iran on Tuesday to stop meddling in the internal affairs of the group’s members."

And they consider a nuclear-armed Iran a serious threat to their safety:
"leaked U.S. diplomatic cables have shown that Qatar shares the other GCC states’ view that Iran is the primary threat, not Israel."

Right now, Iran's posturing with the US and threats to close the Straight of Hormuz aren't doing it any favours.
Other nations that consider an interruption in global oil supplies a threat to their economic wellbeing and recession recovery might take action if they perceive the US isn't.
And that could lead to a UN military intervention to destroy Iran's nuclear facilities and Iran's military capability to harm neighbours or affect trade.
The US seems to be playing a waiting game, ratcheting up the tension to provoke Iran into shooting first.
If Iran does, the US can call on the other NATO members since the NATO treaty states an attack on one is an attack on all 28 nations of the alliance.
And that's almost certain to also provoke the UN into intervening on the side of the US.
