Doctors, health experts and politicians have repeated demands that boxing should be banned following the death of Scottish fighter Mike Towell.

While it's a degrading spectacle and a dangerous pursuit, banning it would probably drive it underground, given the sort that follow it.

There might be a case for 'shutting off the oxygen of publicity.'

Violence entails aggression or hatred of one's opponent. So by definition, boxing should be banned because it's clearly in violation of the Second commandment to love your neighbour. Matthew 22:39, Mark 12:31 and Luke 10:27.

1 John 3:15 is the definitive prohibitive version of the aforementioned.

To love your neighbour implies that it would be wrong to punch anybody in the face/head. Obviously, boxing as a barbaric bloodsport is clearly in violation of the teachings of Christ.

Boxing is a barbaric blood sport which is Un-Christian and it should be banned just like abortion should be banned.

Boxing HAS been banned in the past. The result was to drive it underground where it became even more brutal.

The day is coming when boxing will be banned, just as gladiators fighting was banned.

Yes, I've wanted boxing banned from Sport for many years and Sweden were well on the way to influencing the Sporting World to ban boxing until Olaf Palme was assassinated.

NO. we have been here before, its never going to happen, what i suggest is a halt on the weight cuts that are causing problems, fighters should be on weight weeks before the fight and continually monitered up untill the fight, this will stop the silly weight cuts, also get rifd of the big gloves that are supposed to limit damage but actually cause more damage, look at bare knuckle fighters with no gloves or mma fighters with tiny gloves, im not awatre of any fatalities in mma or bare knuckle but there are loads in boxing.

No. As unfortunate as Mike Towell's death was, he shouldn't have been in the ring in the first place, having complained about headaches before hand. The questions are why wasn't it picked up, did his trainers know anything, or not listen?

On the whole, no, but head shots should be banned and the boxers should be made to wear protective headgear.

No it should not be banned. However, punching power has increased because the stakes (money) are higher nowadays, sheer muscle power compared with years ago when some boxers had what resembled beer bellies.

If idiots wish to beat each other senseless let 'em it's not as if we are going to lose the guy who'd cure cancer.

I don't like watching sport and if you don't like boxing don't watch.

No. It is generally assumed that Boxing helps channel rebellious youth out of their gangs and back into more viable society. Every sport is dangerous.

I think it should, but that would lead to bare knuckle fighting in barns and such like. If people want to kill themselves than that's their problem.

real men with brain-damage from years of hard-knocks;

that's a big thrill for everyone?

It's saver than soccer, tennis, or track & field, so it'd be symbolic if you ban fight-sports, the reality is, anytime you push your body, you're at risk.

Should statists and their mouthpieces be banned?

No it should not.

If people want to box that's their choice. I have had enough of you left wingers who prefer a nanny state who would rather grown gay men have a pink feather duster fight instead of real men slogging it out in the ring.
