Does it sicken anyone else that for the cost of the royal wedding so many people could be fed? Medical expenses paid? And so on? Why is there royalty? How sickening.

I heard someone on TV refer to his bride as a 'commoner'. What century is Britain living in?

All royals are sickening parasites that feed off hard working people and squander obscene amounts of resources, while the working people's resources dwindle down to near nothing. Same thing here with the elite bankers who run this suck zone. We have witnessed the largest transfer of wealth in history from the middle class to the super rich elite parasites.

For a start off, the Royal Family do not live off the backs of anyone. All money that the Crown Estates make goes to the government, in return for an allowance.

The Royal Estates made £210m last year, which if it hasn't sunk in yet, went straight to the government.

The Civil List is £7.9m per year, and there are extra allowances agreed in Parliament. In total the Royal Family gets back around £40m per year, from the £210m it gives to the government.

The Queens own personal income, which she actually lives on, comes from her private portfolio.

The only bill the tax payer is picking up for the Royal Wedding is the cost of security, we also payed for the security during the Popes visit last year, as we do when any other foreign dignitary makes a state visit, but I don't recall half the fuss over that.

I said the same thing when everyone was criticizing the exorbitant cost of the Chelsea Clinton wedding.

Yeah, they were both ridiculously expensive, but don't ignore the fact that the weddings DID feed and otherwise help provide income for everyday people. That money didn't just get shot off into the atmosphere, it paid for products, services, transportation, hotels, restaurants, etc., etc. That helped literally hundreds of every day people find WORK and earn a living. They all profited off the royal wedding.

Funny old world. The event will bring more money into the UK than it costs. The expense for medical expenses the cost may cover is a minute amount that would be of any use. If we want to get all altruistic then we should all give our spare cash to such causes. No savings and yet the cheap cuts and live in a tent.

What sickens me is questins like this. I wonder how many people could be fed and medical expenses etc could be paid by the money spent on protecting multi millionaire Blair and his family.

The Middletons and the Royal family have paid for the wedding actually. The taxpayer has paid for the security like they pay for visiting Heads of State.

Yes.

I don't acknowledge royalty. These characters are no different than me, except they have more money and a much sweeter gig. As to bowing to them - LOL - only if I turn around 180 degrees, then I'll bow.

The money sickens me, but as long as it's their money, they can do what they want with it. If the citizens are paying, the royals should be arrested.

You are correct - there is no such thing as a royal and a commoner.

EDIT: Assuming Ragnar is correct, the royal family should reimburse the government for security. They are NOT heads of State nor are they diplomats. They are anachronisms and figure heads. They have every right to throw a billion pound party - just not to expect me to pay for any of it.

Britain thinks it is living in the 21st century & a thin veneer covers royal respect.

I personally think they should have run away & married in secret.

The cost of 20M of this 1 wedding is positively shameful.

Their wedding is splashed across all the media & is the royals last ditch attempt at securing their place in the UK.

There is a growing number of people who wonder how many 3-world villages could have been saved, how many starving/thirsty children around the world could have been lifted out of poverty, how many wells providing clean/fresh life-giving water could it have secured........

the list goes on & on.

I understand that the happy couple specifically requested those invited to their wedding to make donations to charitable causes rather than wedding gifts, which may well help them sleep at night & ease their conscience in the process.

I say give over it doesn't ease mine!

Today may have been their day & they may well be touched, grateful & pleased by public affection.

BUT some however are NOT AMUSED.

I'm embarrassed by a farcical royal family.

All through the wedding I was thinking, "how much of our tax payers money did they blow on this". Just take the eurofighter. On ITV they said it costs £60,000 to put one in the air for just one hour. They had several of them in the air, and think about the number of hours they put into rehearsals etc.. And that's just the planes, not to mention the dress, security, bank holiday etc..

But I did enjoy watching the wedding though, however brief it was.

I heard on the news that they are spending 20 million on this wedding. Its crazy!!! You're right, so many medical expenses could be paid. Why won't they help countries like Japan and Haiti with all that money?! Those countries need that money now more that the prince does.

Emmm actually no!

At least the money was not spent on Students/Muslims protesting on the streets of London?

Are you not the same people who are saying that Britain is losing its identity?

Be proud to be British, millions of people would like to be in your position! (including me).

Why don't you give up something unnecessary in your life, and send the money to a charity?

Not at all. It's their money. Who are you to tell them how to spend it?
