If the land grabbing Russians are allowed to march into "historic Russian" lands in Ukaine, what's then to stop Germany from marching into Danzig and East Prussia, which are historic German lands taken from them after WWII. What about the German territories occupied by Poland?

A precedent must be set NOW, to prevent wholesale madness.

Mind you, I don't think Germany would do that, I just used them as an example.

What's to stop Britain and Canada from storming back into the USA and taking it back to take over USA again? Kicked out in 1783, They tried this in 'War of 1812'.

The new USA then had been independent since 1783.....(29 years).

Ukraine was....independent...since 1991....till now.....(23 years).

In my opinion, the Ukrainians are fighting ....for their right to existence...and the Russians should....go home...to Russia.

Internationally everything is up for grabs like raw meat is for dogs. Morality and law is a shaky luxury enjoyed within the confines of free nations.

So, every country must protect its turf in the best way they know how. That starts by protecting its borders. If a country can make a grab for another country, and it wants to pay the price in blood, then they will do it. Dictators don't mind paying the price for aggression in blood, if it is the blood of their subjects, and the subjects have no way to resist.

"The first casualty of war is truth." Propaganda is psychological warfare that abounds everywhere and takes all kinds of forms. Aggressors use propaganda to weaken and soften resistance so they can achieve odious political goals without having to use so much of their subjects blood.

Russia is a rogue nation, and always has been, even before Stalin and the others. It will take whatever it can get away with, but Russia is not the only one.

International Law sounds good, but it is nearly non existent, especially with the United Nations which has human rights violators on human rights committees. The U.N. is phony baloney.

The fact is, internationally everything is up for grabs, and the morality within countries borders does not hold outside the borders. Strong cultures devour weaker cultures, and not only militarily but in all other respects.

I dont see any parallel with pre-war Germany and Russia. Russia has not invaded anywhere and did not steal land. In fact, if the U.S./EU had not fomented protests against Yanukovich in the first place leading to a violent overthrow of the Kiev government, Putin probably wouldnt have stepped in to help Crimea. The people of Crimea held a referendum that was monitored and democratic. Just in the nick of time before the marauding Kiev mercenaries attacked them and took control of Russian bases.

Germany neither wants or needs to repeat the arguments of the 1930s.

There is a very strong similarity in these 2 historical events

and just like in the 30s of 20th century, World isn't doing anything to stop the aggressor. You don't count sanctions, In 2008 no-one did anything when Russia annexed Georgian South Ossettia and Abkhazia. \No one seem to be interesting in shutting down Malaysian plane, 300 people vanishing in thin air.

Danzig is the German name for GdaƄsk - a city founded by Poles and that has been ruled by Poles for most of its 1000 years' existence - it was ruled by Poles before even Germany started to exist as a state.

Oh, and all the territories that were 'taken' from Germany in 1945 are not German territories occupied by Poland - all of these lands were occupied by Prussia during the partitions time (late 1790s - 1918) and were originally Polish. So go and learn your history lessons.

And no, what Putin does, doesn't make a precedence - it simply proves Putin is insane.

The situation in the Crimea a precedent for any revision of the world's borders.
