Question:
What do the American people think of the EMP Bomb?
2007-08-07 11:20:33 UTC
While every nation on Earth is vulnerable to attack from the United States, the United States is vulnerable, indeed defenseless, to a secret class of nuclear weapons which has captured the attention of the major nuclear powers--China, Russia, Britain, France, and the United States itself--for the past thirty-eight years.

The Blackout Bomb means that we are vulnerable to complete information civilization shutdown, and there is nothing we can do about that in a military defensive sense. Only Peace Strategy--strategy focused on achieving peace, rather than winning war--will head off a global confrontation, beginning with a lot of high-altitude electromagnetic pulse lay down.

Something the governmnet dont want to talk about.

LOL...The EMP bomb is basically useless against hard targets as it is easy to protect against. Most military and comercial equipment have EM protection built into them (mainly to prevent espionage) All satellites built in the last twenty years are shielded and all aircraft are shielded. The only thing it would do is make life miserable for the common folk as most cars, appliances and cell phones are not protected.

emp is a side effect of traditional nukes, no one knows how to make one without a nuke, least i don't. They aren't bad, they're actually more humane than covering the planet in mass destruction and radioactive fallout. It just turns out the lights, banks and govt would be screwed and it'd be uncomfortable but things can carry on. I think too, the emp from a nuke is temporary, it only last a few minutes, the stuff should work after that. maybe needs a new curcuit.

Also, you can attempt to destroy the rocket housing the emp device as easily as you could if it housed a nuke. certainly no more menacing than that. They could smuggle it in but they could smuggle a nuke in. Not that it excuses it but it's not a special circumstance. People would use them more easily, i'd imagine, we'd have already dropped a few in Iraq if we had them.

There are manual controls inside tanks now, if anything is going to be near where we shoot a nuke it'll be a tank, they're equipped to switch to manual where you will need to turn cranks and stuff to aim the gun.

These weapons could cause devastating damage to the country in general, however critcal systems are likely to be shielded against EMP. Commonly, only a fraction of a millimeter of a metal is needed to supply adequate protection. Aluminum copper or iron will do the job. So youre statement that there is nothing we can do about it is wrong. There is plenty we can do about it.

Yes... what you are saying is true, but the American people don't know enough about EMP's to recognize their potential destructive power. But our government is already armed with missile detection and missile-elimination systems, and they are working on arming our satellites to counter EMP missiles or just missiles in general. I have faith that someone will find a way to counter those EMPs. Every weapon in history has been countered, and will have to be re-engineered to defeat the counter-weapon... the cycle goes on and on.

Believe it or not, the magazine "Popular Mechanics" published an issue about 15 years ago that described in detail how you could put one of these together, powered by a car battery, that would shut down an area of about twenty square blocks in any city.

Great security breach there, in my opinion . . .

Last century's technology. Look up thyristor, your surge protector has one.

Also SOS technology. Silicon on Sapphire.

if the Chinese shoot a few of our communication satellites out of the sky, they'll get the same results.

What's your question?

EMP has been around for a long long time.
