you can not expect the Sri Lankans here answering you, to appreciate the world sentiments! I agree that the ban would not have big impact on SL. They have their buddies like China, Pak and Iran, the trio the world would look with much caution and suspicion!
SL had oppressed the Tamil citizens for decades resulting in the movements for their equal rights, both civil democratic ones like that of late Amirthalingam, or the militant one under Prabakaran. That India had helped the freedom fighters for sometime in the past is true and none too unusual in world history, where the countries had tried to help their ethnic population suffering discrimination in other countries!
That the SL friends here harp about the chinese ''friendship'' which is nothing more than strategic partnerships for unspoken ambitions, is unfortunate! The Chinese also oppress their citizens in Tibet and Pakis ill treat the minorities - Hindus, Sikhs and Christians - in their country! Besides both these countries have expansionist ambitions, tacit and explicit! The very fact the two hostile countries had tried to befriend SL is just to annoy India, banking on the parochial attitude of of SL to deprive its ethnic minorities of equal rights in their country!
Yes, US or other powers are not the least interested in HR or other ethical issues! They are all time servers keen to project themselves as torch bearers of liberty and peace, all the time taking partisan stands in every world issue!
But we sincerely hope that the SL Tamils would get justice they deserve soon! All right thinking people across the world have sympathy for their cause! But big powers are just pretending to help!
God should help them - India won't, US or others won't!
