In your opinion what makes the McCann situation any different from any other missing child?

I've been following this section about a month now and there and half of the questions have to do with the McCanns. I'll admit, other than than the disappearance itself, I know little of the story except that she's supposedly been spotted but not found, the blood, etc.

So what is it about the McCann disappearance that is different. I don't see a single post about any other missing child on here. Is it because the parents left her? Because that happens all the time with other missing kids. Is it because of the celebs involved?

What makes this case so different from all the others that it's worthy of so much attention on here.

The coverage that this story is getting is doing a disservice to all the other missing children out there, do they not deserve to have their stories told as well?



Personally i believe that the only reason why its getting this much attention is because of people like J.K Rowling who came forward to pledge money for the madeline fund.

very good question, these are some suggestions

a) the element of neglect in the children being left alone and the fact that the authorities have not spoken out about this nor have the McCanns agreed they were wrong to do

b) the fact that the McCanns have courted the media daily meaning there is a daily source of info for people to discuss

c) the fund - I think this has irritated some people

i think its to do with the publicity her parents have been able to generate. if she had been taken in Britain the they may have been able to put more faith in the police to find her, but i dont think they feel they can trust the Portuguese police to get the information that's needed to find her! by the way, thats a terrible thing to suggest sammy!!
