Will you please boycott Canadian seafood?

Canada is right now brutally killing baby seals by the thousands. These baby seals are clubbed, shot and skinned, sometimes while still alive. These seals are migratory and belong to the whole world, NOT Canada. Will you please join in a boycott of Canadian seafood to put preasure on Canada to stop the killing? Go to this link for more info and a video of what is happening right now! Thanks.

I understand your passion about clubbing baby seals but what does seafood have to do with it? By boycotting another industry you are hurting that industry, jobs, towns, etc of people who have no connection with the fur industry. Why don't we just boycott Maple Syrup or someother unrelated Canadian product.

When I see half-baked movements like this, it does make me wonder what kind of thought went into the proposal. I don't think I will be supporting your boycott.

I have done a little looking into the issue. The harp seal hunts occur on the East coast of Canada, mainly at two locations. It is an off season activity for an estimated 4000 fisherman...just a fraction of the total fishermen - and none of the west coast fisherman. Boycotting Canadian seafood is not a very directed action.

I think it is a mistake to boycott the guys making a living. I think you would be much better boycotting the demand side of the seal pelts...Norway who process the majority of pelts and designers of seal fashions. It is more logical and targets the problem better. Further the Canadian government make the hunts legal and endorses the industry. That seems like another likely target. Good luck. See the links below for more information.

While clubbing is despicable, I hope they find a more humane method.

However, numbers do need to be controlled, like deer, for instance. They are hunted and shot when their numbers become a problem. I would guess that we probably kill more deer on the roads every year than seals being slaughtered and those deaths are not pretty or pleasant for the deer.

This issue needs to be dealt with, I agree, but boycotting is not the answer.

I'll definitely look into it. I don't quite see what this has to do with seafood, but I'll certainly check it out. I don't believe in the killing of baby seals either.

I'll research on it and let you know what I've decided to do. Some people on here have some interesting info.

The video was graphic and what they are doing is horrible. But boycotting seafood isn't going to solve much. Fur industries should be boycotted. I'll do my best to support you, but unfortunately, that's all I can do.

Hell no. Just because you do not agree with something does not mean it is not part of a culture you do not understand.
