If that were the case,ALL Christian churches and schools would have to be abolished.

I have no doubt that these companies could be doing a lot more to prevent the sharing of such images. If they can filter and block certain content on Y.A. they could definitely do so in other areas.

He is being naive or hypocritical, possibly both. He is the leader of a coaliton which, between the Tories who think legisaltion should not apply to busines and LibDems who want to stop all investigations on privacy grounds, are trying to push the country into a form of anarchy.

City AM newspaper last week printed a response to a suggestion that businesses should act on moral grounds which effectively said that acting morally would interfere their duty to their shareholders; i.e profit making.

Of course they can stop it. But the world has people that want stuff for free (not this vile stuff) and they will see this as an assault on their rights as such a move could be rather encompassing rather than stopping vile practices.

Yes, it should be stopped. The technology is there. Images of child abuse is abhorrent to the vast majority. Companies often ague about freedom of the Internet. Any one of us caught having images on our computers would be severely dealt with through the courts. Surely, These firms should be dealt with in the same way. There is no argument, allowing child abuse is an affront to decent people everywhere!

Cameron grasping at straws because he knows that come the next election he is finished.

This will end up like his 46 promises before the Election, his failure to curb Payday Loans, reduce the profits of Gas, Electricity and Fuel, EU Referendum, Changes for the Better in the NHS and to Isolate and remove Hostile Muslims. This Man and his Party should be consigned to the Political Dustbin.

Probably not. Look at the amounts of spam already on sites that rely on people to report. It creates a lot of money for those who are cheeky enough to post it. They can create a filter, but the offenders just change what they post.

EDIT The link is to block what children watch, but I thought it may be of interest ?

I agree that something should be done about this sort of material but `Call me Dave` is the wrong person to be advocating it, it seems like another sound bite that will come to nothing and we will not hear about it again after a few days.

No, it's just another excuse for removing personal freedom

Granted there are a few idiots out there who post their illegal activities on the likes of Facebook but the groups we're talking about will store this sort of information on servers which have restrictions that search engines can't reach. Access will be by invitation only or word of mouth so none of what Cameron is proposing makes any sense or will achieve anything

When anybody is accessing this information the connection will be encrypted so you can't stop this from happening other than to give Big Brother a back door into encryption systems which is an abuse of freedom that the NSA and Microsoft have already lied to us about and brought in incidentally

Now you could ask ISPs to check the servers they host, but what if the data itself is encrypted or the person hosts the server from their home?

To stop this sort of thing from happening you have to tackle the source of the problem itself. What makes this so appealing to these people and how did they venture so far off the path. Usually it's a troubled background and that's what needs to be tackled because otherwise more and more people will end up like this

Whoever has advised Cameron must know nothing about computers or the Internet if he thinks what he's proposing will achieve this end goal, so he clearly has a different end goal to what he's putting out to the public

This is nothing more than an excuse for Governments to place restrictions on the Internet when there shouldn't be any. In countries that don't respect human rights we've already seen governments putting in restrictions on search engines and web sites in order to block people from learning what their government get up to and how their lives compare to others, especially those in charge. And this is what we're heading for if this sort of thing is allowed to begin

It's a slippery slope that will only end in less freedom for us and successive Governments have been chipping away enough of those as it is. Because once filters go in place we'll be none the wiser as more and more restrictions are added

Despite the fact that MPs are elected by the people, for the people, they bring in these sort of rulings because they get swallowed up in the power. They want to restrict our freedoms to make it easier for them to control because it gives them more power

Governments don't like the Internet because it will allow us to usurp their authority should the need arise and it risks the public throwing them out of power as has been demonstrated. Just take a look at what happened to places like Egypt and Turkey when people took to social networking. And why do you think they turn off the Internet when problems start to arise

A Government is elected to fulfil the objectives set out in it's manifesto. Those are the things we vote on nothing more. If they want to bring in more laws they should put that to the people at the next election and let them decide if they want them or not

MPs are meant to serve the wishes of the people not the other way around
