Question:
The Mirror gives a good page to the jailed lesbian teacher, but only one paragraph to a male teacher..?

"Teacher Brett Meads, 28, of Peterborough, Cambs, was yesterday warned by a judge he faced a lengthy jail term after admitting nine sex offences involving three girl pupils aged 15 and 16. He was remanded in custody."

I guess it's not so 'sexy' is it?

One thing that is different (apart from the sex of the perpetrator) is that she has been sentenced and he is waiting to be sentenced.

Perhaps the Mirror will give more space to the story once the sentence is known.

I wonder if the 3 pupils gave evidence in his favour, and are "in love", and will wait for him while he serves his prison sentence?

The Helen Goddard story had a lot going for it, from a Mirror journalist point of view.

The perpetrator is female - unusual.

It was a public school - class distinction

The victim AND the perpetrator claim it is "love"

Though Goddard is a sex offender she has not been barred from keeping in touch (post and phone, you naughty people) with her victim. and will be able to see her once she is released despite the wishes of the girl's parents as expressed to the judge.

Mr Meeds used to teach at my school.

He always seemed like such a nice man..

There were rumours going round for ages about him though,

some genius came up with the name "The Meedophille"

I don't understand why Mr Meeds doesn't get a whole page..

he taught at a well respected school, and things like that dont ever happen in Norfolk. Its not right that one story that is practically the same gets so much more coverage than another..

I agree. As is the theme of the day, the appeal of a female sex predator is clearly more alluring to readers of 'The Mirror' than a male sex offender. Just see how enticed our resident CE expert on all things tabloid is with the whole topic. Case closed. Let's get the Mochas in.

Well it's a very 'politically correct' response to the female and if Mr. Brett Meads was a Muslim he'd get off with a reward! And no I'm not coming down on the Muslims here I'm stating the politically correctness of the UKs fear of hurting a "minority" group.

that makes it sound like men are interested in the lesbian story because they find it 'titillating', I'm astonished at this stance.

I think there are perhaps just more facts known about the lesbian romping story.

Well it will be interesting to see what sentence he gets ......... bet its more than 15 months.

Teeside - "Just see how enticed our resident CE expert on all things tabloid is with the whole topic" - Shambo has been relatively quiet on this issue.

It is rare for a woman to be a peadophile so it get's more coverage. I don't think the word 'sexy' should be used in either story.

You ought to tell us just how much you think the Mirror SHOULD have given him then. I note that the bloke is likely for a "lengthy" sentence whereas the woman only gets 15 months.
