Question:
Why can't Britain be like Iceland?
2014-03-26 07:23:11 UTC
No surrender to criminal banking cartels!
No surrender to the European Union!
No surrender to the American government!
No surrender to the United Nations!
No surrender to British fish-thieves!
No surrender to multiculturalism and mass immigration!
No surrender to Islam!
No surrender to gun control!

"In Britain, you don't have an experience of trusting the people" - Olafur Grimsson, Icelandic President, standing up for his people against the despicable BBC.

God bless you Iceland. You are a guiding light of what all European countries should look like.

''It was a spat that, against the odds, Iceland won. While many other politicians in Iceland had urged a policy of appeasing the enraged British and Dutch governments, Gunnlaugsson had insisted they should go hang.;Icelanders, as descendants of the Vikings, are highly individualistic and have difficulty putting up with authorities, let alone oppression; he said in one of his first speeches as prime minister on Iceland's Independence Day in June this year. This was clearly demonstrated in the Icesave dispute, in which the people rejected an agreement they considered unfair. This was later upheld by an international court, which showed that the people' s sense of justice was a reliable indicator to follow.''

''The voters opted for the same centre-right parties responsible for the pre-crisis boom. They want a government that:

Implements sensible pro-growth policies.

Firmly opposes EU membership.

Takes a firm line against foreign creditors.

All while working to lift capital controls and further integrating Iceland into the world economy. The Icelanders elected the new government because they have more trust in their ability to deliver on this list than did its left-of-centre predecessor.''

I think Britain is modelled on Iceland. By that though, I mean the supermarket.

We love our cheap, ethically dubious mass produced crap.

They bailed out the banks and guaranteed the deposits of internal savers by separating the banks into internal and external debt. The only reason that they are not paying foreign deposit holders is due their financial institutions are being broken up and asset stripped to pay back the foreign government who protected their own investors, currently 53% has been paid back with the remaining 47% by the end of 2017 This has nothing to do with the Icelandic government who had started to renegociate with foreign governments to pay back.

Iceland's application to the EU started in 2009 and is currently suspended as they cannot agree fishing policy with the EU, however as a member of the EEA and Schengen area it has less control over its borders, multiculturalism and mass immigration than the UK.

Iceland is a member of the United Nations and is bound by the same international laws as every other member

Iceland has very strict gun laws that require every gun to be licenced as is the individual who owns them, semi automatic weapons are banned and very few people own handguns.

There was a US airforce base on Iceland for over 50 years with approx. 2,000 troops there at any time - it was the US's decision to abandon it base in Iceland as the cold war had ended and it no longer needed what was effectively a refuelling station in the mid Atlantic

It is also one of the highest taxed nations in Europe with an annual tax free allowance of around £3,000 (compared to the UK's £10,500) and income tax rates starting at 37% and the highest rate starts at less than £50,000. VAT is also at 25%. It is also one of the most expensive places to live.

And finally when he was talking about Britain trusting its people he was talking about the use of referendums Grimsson uses them a lot as he believes this is direct democracy, in the UK they are not used often as we believe in representative democracy. He did acknowledge that it is easier to have direct democracy with a population of 300,000. The only connection to the BBC is that it was an interview on Newsnight.

Because then our politicians couldn't go strutting on the world stage.

If we could tax ego, for some of our politicians we'd have to bring back the supper tax rate of 95%, huh, and they'd still be raking in millions.

Is that what you want for Britain? To be helpless against the world?

More helpless than it already is, I mean.

Because Britain's got a nasty habit of getting into World Wars and then screaming for help & rescue from its former colonies and other allies.
