All I know is I'm Persian/Iranian and I don't burn Obselisks. But It seems to be The Symbol of Devil, And USA being the Devil, so .... :)) OK, I don't do that so don't curse me :p

Iranians are burning obelisk as they believe they are associated with free masonry and other religions that they deem as satanic. Destroying the obelisks is to show they do not support and do not want to be associated with the representations of these religions or cults.

I am not sure there is s single correct statement in that rant. "Obelisk" is a Greek word, and it has nothing to do with Baal. If it referenced Baal, Baal's name would be in it. Obelisks are primarily Egyptian, and Egyptians do not worship Pan. Or Baal, for that matter. A "witch" is not a good source of historical information, anymore than a brain surgeon is a good source of information about fixing a car. The obelisk is primarily associated with Ra, not Osiris, Horus, etc. And I fail to see how the rebirth of Osiris, minus his penis, somehow gives meaning to an obelisk, which isn't associated with him at all. It is not a "small step." It's a giant, blind leap. You seem to have answered your own question, although you did it by cutting and pasting from another question and answer site. I find it impossible to find an actual article on the phenomena, although I did find a handful of rants, which aren't the same thing.

It took me about 20 minutes to choose the links posted below among 1000's I found by a single click. lol. For over 200 years many people around the globe and specially Americans in the US, have been opposing, burning, cursing and doing what have you to Obelisks and what they think it symbolizes which is Freemasons and Secret societies. Now i don't give a hoot about who is right or wrong. The obelisk was labelled with a Jewish star and an anti-American slogan, which explains why they were taking out their temper on it. It is hard to sympathise with the sort of loser who erects a symbol of his opponent, only to try to knock it down.



The video actually shows a rather pathetic scene - a very few young men, uniformly dressed in white shirts and dark trousers, stoning the thing while the city's life goes on unperturbed in the bckground.

If that is the best Iran can do, Israel and the USA do not need to worry for a while.



The obelisk, despite an accelerant (petrol?) being used was reluctant to burn; at the end of the video it was marked but still standing, and the demonstrators were looking increasingly ineffective. A bad omen for the Iranians.
