About other religions, the work of a world gone 'PC' mad? Or going a long way to helping overcome prejudices in this multi cultural, multi faith country.

Children need to be educated in multi-cultural issues. So much has changed in today's society. What was acceptable when most of the children's parents were young, are not acceptable any more.

Children need to be taught that being different in any way,be race, culture or gender, that underneath it all, there is a human being.Something i think is easily forgotten.

Going a long way to helping and an absolute necessity.

The more you know about something, anything the less likely you are to fear it and be swept along by other people´s prejudices.

When I went to a strict convent school thirty years ago we were taught about all other religions. We had people of other faiths come in and give us talks. I currently work in a Catholic school which does the same.

I cannot imagine the alternative. If schools stopped teaching about other religions the average child would know nothing other than his/her family´s beliefs ....what kind of a society would that create?

It shouldn't be in depth...that should be left to the child's faith formation at home.

Here in India, in all Christian schools, Christian children attend a Religion class where they are taught Christianity while the non-Christian children attend a Value Education Class.

As far as learning about other Religions is concerned, teachers do a great job of teaching the meanings of the other Festivals which is about as depth as one should get, i think.

children should be taught about other religions and cultures in more depth yes.

I would also say they should have classes on modern history or current world events also - eg. Global politics and making sense of current issues to do with like, war in iraq (reasons and history behind it), Isreal/Palastine - troubles in Africa, again, reasons why, history - in the absense of any real knowledge of these things people tend to fill in the blanks themselves - and develop some very strange ideas and theories - and prejudices

It will help with understanding of other faiths, but

I think only one faith should be taught in depth, we're a Christian country and everyone needs to appreciate the morals and rules we live by

Other religious beliefs should be explored and explained. So children are not making assumptions based on ignorance or biased press reporting

Ignorance breeds fear, so clearly learning about other religions and cultures is a path towards acceptance.

I think if people just STFU about their religion and kept it to themselves it would go alot further in preventing prejudice than forcing kids say prayers to any prophet.
