Why are Americans allowing themselves to be brainwashed by a media that tries to sell the idea that 35 dead American soldiers for the month of November means success in Iraq is on the way?

In ref to this propaganda: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20071129/ap_on_re_mi_ea/iraq

Yahoo toots its pro-war pro-Bush agenda headlines claiming U.S. deaths in Iraq remain low for November. Why are "low" deaths in Iraq now suddenly acceptable as a sign of military success? Casualties are casualties, and wasted lives IN ANY AMOUNT are no more success than any number of deaths for any month created by a war that has not made the Middle East or the U.S. or anyone more secure.

Interesting question, I'll try to answer.

First, you have to realize that anytime you use military force, there will be casualties. People will die. .

The next thing you have to decide is whether or not the use of military force is justified and what would be the consequences of not participating?

In the case of Iraq, if the U.S. were to pull out, what would happen? In all likely hood, Iran would send in people and attempt to take over Iraq. In the process, anyone who was perceived as helping the US would be killed. The people who live there would be helpless to resist or fight.

Historically, you need to look at similar situations in history. Consider Viet Nam. After we left, tens of thousands of American supporters, who believed in freedom for their country were either killed or sent to North Vietnamese "Re education camps" In Cambodia, millions were killed by Pol Pot and his regime. .

Such will be the cost if America pulls out of Iraq. Additionally, it will embolden the terrorist factions and result in significantly more terrorist acts world wide. The terrorists will point out that America is a paper tiger and can be defeated through terrorism

As it stands now, most terrorists (Muslim such as al Queida) are tied up fighting in Iraq. In fighting them on their front, we prevent their coming and fighting on our soil. So you have to ask. . Is it better to fight terrorism on their front and OUR conditions or let them come here and fight on their terms?

Your question clearly shows that NOTHING that comes out of Iraq that is good news will ever satisfy you, so why try? You have obviously made up your mind, so why muddy the water with facts.

Relating FACTS, both good and bad, should be what the media does. Then Americans can draw their own conclusions. There have been positive events in Iraq...to not state that would be a disservice to the troops who are working so hard and sacrificing so much to make such things happen.

BTW, Yahoo doesn't "write" the news. Just like any other news source, they pull from Reuters, AP, etc., and simply post them on their website.

According to the polls and the Bush approval rating, not many Americans are. Most of the few who are influenced are on Y/A. I suggest they get off their computers and go help out the troops in Iraq.
