Godaddy CEO Bob Parsons shot an elephant today in Zimbabwe hurting its own company brand reputation. The controversy quickly spread on the Internet. PETA, the animal rights activist group, lead the charge by closing its Godaddy account. Meanwhile, Namecheap, one of GoDaddy's biggest competitors, is taking advantage of GoDaddy's swoops in for the kill. Namecheap is offering a special price of $4.99 for Godaddy transfers where 20% of the proceeds go to SaveTheElephants.com.

I live in Zimbabwe and the hunting industry is an incredibly important industry in our country (given that theres not that many tourists these days). The fact is that there are also areas in zimbabwe where elephants are very over populated and are destroying the vegetation and the habitat which will lead to thier slow and painful demises anyway when there is no more food.... so culling is often essential. Each is obviously entitled to thier own opinion on hunting as a sport - that is a seperate issue, but the fact stands that he was just a client to a hunting company, supporting the industry, keeping several people in a job, and i personally dont think its should be such a big deal...

and as friar timothy said the hunting industry is very well regulated and controlled - only a certain number of animals are allowed to be hunted every year in specific areas, etc etc, so it is just as legitimate as any other industry. in my opinion i dont necessarily support hunting as sport, but it is necessary, and the killing is never inhumane, if the client stuff the shot up, the PH (professional hunter) always puts it out of its misery within seconds by delivering a good brain shot!

He is very insecure man who is trying to garner attention by killing a helpless animal I think it is barbaric and I think Karma will reward him one day he may be on the wrong side of an elephant what a shame that would be

You kill it... you consume it? super. it relatively is how we lived earlier supermarkets. yet for activity? in common terms for the dignity of killing? No! What does it say some person who does that?

I'd never heard of go-daddy before so I suppose it's a bit of publicity.

Seems he might have ratnered himself.

But these type of men with their atavistic tendencies will always find excuses to do what they really want to do anyway.

I haven't got over them killing the exmoor emperor in October.

Elephant hunts are very well regulated and would not be allowed if it harmed the elephant population. And if PETA is against it then I'm all for it !
