“Portuguese police appeared to take a step back from charging Madeleine McCann's parents”
“Detectives may be depending on Kate and Gerry McCann making a confession”
“A "high-ranking" officer in the Policia Judiciaria (PJ) - Portugal's criminal investigation department - said the evidence was not even strong enough to prove whether Madeleine was dead.”

“A local newspaper yesterday quoted an unnamed "high-ranking" officer as saying that the authorities did not have a concrete case against the couple.”

“Police 'cannot prove Madeleine's death'”

“The mood towards the McCanns in the Portuguese press seemed to have softened yesterday, and one senior officer said the Policia Judiciaria (PJ) simply had "nothing concrete" to go on.”

I wish everyone would take a step back from this case. The media is having a field day, throwing out all kinds of stories and innuendos with out any true facts. It's gotten to the point where most people don't know what to believe anymore. I sure don't believe most of what the media is reporting, that's for sure.

Yep, the police are turning out to be mushy, and could proceed to accomplish that further and extra. the customary public wages war on the police for doing their activity, and all and sundry tries to sue. Why could an officer take the prospect on getting sued and fired for an consumer-friendly arrest? The officers have familys, residences, mortgages and charges, maximum of them understand that a debatable arrest could value them each and every thing, especially if it finally ends up on youtube. The police can no longer win at the instant, in the event that they intrude in against the regulation and could use stress, somebody claims brutality, in the event that they do no longer do something, they're pronounced as cowards. this is purely going to worsen, until eventually the customary public realizes that a cop's activity isn't especially, in no way has been and in no way would be, and each from time to time human beings get harm whilst they destroy the regulation.

The stories also state that the McCann's are not allowed to hire a private investigator to help find Madelaine, while an investigation is going on.

That has been a point a lot of people have been making. "Why haven't they hired someone to find her". Well now they all know why!!

People are always so ready to judge when they do not have all the full facts. I just hope they can get this resolved and back on track to finding Madelaine.

It's simply wrong to accuse unless you can prove it, that is the law.

However, and think on this, whatever the real truth, the very soul of a Country such as the UK, having supported this couple so much, could not stand the news that they were guilty.

That being the case, were it the case, it makes more sense, from a political point of view to sweep it away rather than face such an awful possible truth.

No one wuld trust any parents for a long time to come.

They need a body to be able to advance their case or a confession, anything less is a no win for them.I believe they can continue their investigation without changing the current status of the McCanns for 8 months.Pls correct me if I'm mistaken about that.

No matter which paper you read whether they have positive thing to say about the McCann´s or a negative thing, everytime it is, an uknown police source or one senior officer said or a friend overheard. It´s all journalistic talk. That´s their way of justifying a story irrespective of the facts.

Nothing has come from the prosecution and until it does officially no one will know.

Ignore what the media says. Kate McCann has got to go back to Portugal sometime next week so the Judge has ordered, to answer the 40 questions she refused to answer.

It is just a further development.

But interestingly questions have been asked as to why the people at dinner were told to keep quiet and say nothing whilst the McCann family have been spreading all the rumours.

Jane Tanner said she saw someone taking a child so should the McCanns not have been pleading with her to talk? Perhaps the fact that an independent witness says her story is not true comes into it.

The police now seem to think the body was hidden in another apartment close by. They are awaiting the results of forensic tests. They also seem to beleive the body was disposed of from a yatch which they have identified.

Anyone want to take bets that it will be Dr O’Brien and his wife Jane Tanners apartment and yatch?

Fully agree with Dave S.

The pro-McScum media and doing everything in their (very considerable) power to prop up public support for the McCanns and rubbish the PJ.

I prefer to focus on facts, not spin. So if Kate refuses to answer certain questions about the night in question, I'll be drawing my own conclusions - whatever the GMTV/Sun mob say.

Even if they are taking a step back, the McCanns are still under suspicion. That will follow them wherever they go. If they are not directly involved, then the only way to clear their names of murder or accidental death is to find out what really happened to Madeleine.

There is still the issue of child neglect to be dealt with, though.

In any event, there is no way the McCanns can salvage their reputations, no matter what spin they put on things...

... and all for the sake of a few quid for a babysitter. Truly tragic.

And all this would be since they spent next years holiday money on a new PR agent. Hmmm, I'm guessing there might be a link there.

The portuguese secrecy rules change today so perhaps the PJ will tell us more info.

The McCanns spin machine have a lot to answer for.

I believe what you are reading is the McCanns PR machine kicking back in.

An 'unnamed source says' ......... I mean cmon, you are always ridiculing me for posting quotes from unnamed sources. This is no better.

If the PJ's case was so bad, why did a prosecutor deem it worthy enough to be passed to a judge, and why is it likely that the judge will agree to press ahead with the case and/or press charges - if the PJ had nothing to work with.

Next week my friend - then you will start seeing some fireworks!

All those links come from British newspaper and we all know British press is on the McCanns' side, so it's normal they say that. Things are getting fishy for the McCanns and the people who have sold loads of newspapers thanks to them are helping them.
