While there are many celebrities that do good work for the camera time & then drop the cause as soon as the camera is off, not all do.

Bono has been working to help Africa for the past 20 years! He does it all the time, and not for the publicity. The politicians that he meet with are not fans of his. His meeting usually occur, and no one finds out about it! However, he is constantly cited by people all over the globe as the real thing. He genuinely cares about the subject & wants to effect change.

I feel that the world needs more people like Bono, and maybe the world will be a better place!

I don't get this question. No one asks how we shut the lobbyists, corporate, and special interest money from negatively influencing our elected officials or the public through political advertising. Heck, people like Jack Abramov even had a "right" to do so, as proctected "free speech".

Why doesn't Rush Limbaugh give all his money away to conservative causes? Better yet, why is he allowed to use his celebrity to push for change the way he thinks is right, but not Bono and other celebrities?

Why would you want to shut Bono's mouth. He is one great singer. Plus, because of his talking about issues that others would prefer be swept under a rug, millions have been donated to help fight AIDS in Africa. If you do not think that he has helped the planet, perhaps you would want to see more people who believe in Social Darwinism walking around. These people would not care if the majority of the world's populatin was starving and dying of disease. That would include you and me. .

Glad to find a kindred spirit among what appear to be either very young, very naive or very stupid people. The answer is that we can keep making fun of them and enjoying their blatant hypocrisy and constant attempt to bolster their sagging careers by taking up various "social causes."

Unfortunately, judging from the responses that I received from a similiar question, people appear to be so enthralled with celebrites and eager to believe everything they read about them in People Magazine.

Bono should give up his celebrity status and all the perks that go with it and get a job in a factory. Then he can worry about taking care of his children (by whatever trophy wife he's with at the moment), keeping his job though strikes and layoffs, and plan for a modest retirement, like a good portion of those in the United States do.

Don't buy thier records or see thier movies. Bono is obnoxious and he just wants to stay in the limelight. When your aging rock band becomes pathetic and nobody wants to listen to your stupid songs anymore, whats a guy to do? become a crusader. What a looser. Bono go to Africa and throw yourself in the middle of a bloody battle of warlords, like a white knight in shinning armor and see what happens, see how much these people care about you.

It is a good thing that Artist like Bono find a cause that is out there to help back. This may help bring to our attention rather than looking the other way.

Its people like Bono(a noble peace prize winner) that get the attention from the world to try to change things. I say rock on Bono and answer this if you will what have you done to try to help world and domestic events?

It's great that he and a handful of other celebrities speak out for causes around the world, however, wouldn't it be even better if they were donating like say HALF of the multimillions of dollars that they make every year! Just imagine what the world would be like then, with so much excess money going to people who really need it, now I know it sounds shocking, and ofcourse these "Richie Rich"s" would have to make do with just one oceanside mansion, one Hummer, and probably won't be able to spend $20,000 on a Hermes Birkin Bag, but if my family is surviving comfortably on $100,000 a year, then why can't these people live on just say 1 million.....GET REAL CELEBRITIES!!!! Start forking over the cash!!!!

Why would you want to? Bono is trying to prevent people from starving to death in Africa. If you have any good ideas, why don't you share them instead of criticizing others? What good do you do for others? If you can't think of anything, go out and volunteer! It is much better to light a candle than to curse the darkness!!! May God bless you.

Bono, got to where he is cause the last thing that that man cared about was himself. All the power the money and the fame he has come to, he is using it all toward helping countries taht cant even help themselves. Dixie chicks is one thing, but bono, is doing something big.

Bono is probably the best celebrity out there in terms of giving time and money to support this worlds problems. I think you should redirect your hatred towards every other celebrity out there with 5 jumbo jets and 10 houses who get drunk and drugged all day.

nothing. Buy a cd of U-2 songs at wal-mart, lol. Bono is just acting as a singing neon sign to a problem on the world's road to peace.

I think you're ignorant and self-centered. They're just trying to help. It's not like they're imposing on some master plan of someone's to keep countries in poverty where they're swarming with disease. People who do good to others deserve to open they're mouths and be heard. It's not like a christian activist trying to make everyone believe what they believe. It's another human being wanting to better the lives of other people. People should consider ways to shut your mouth, or at least your typing.

I think Bobo, et al. deserve praise for their efforts. They show courage in their convictions. I wonder if your hostility is covering up some guilt that you don't make efforts to encouarge education and social change.

The only valuable purpose celebrity can serve is to help educate people and right wrongs. I have nothing but praise for public figures like Bono who are willing to work to improve the lives of others.

Singing is something that everybody can learn and improve. Of course, some are more naturally skilled than others, but even a poor voice can be overcome by dedication, practice, and more practice. Even if you're content to sing in the shower, there are some things you can do to improve your voice. This is probably the best online course to improve your singing skills https://tr.im/GrXol

Your golden voice will be ringing out in no time!

He should keep talking. He may be a celebrity, but that doesnt mean he is human and believes he can help another human.

If he's earning millions of dollars and he cares enough to donate, how hard is it for the average person to drop some change in the charity box?

we could just ignore them, but they might see that as the feedback that they need and just keep going. they get big heads when they become famous and think that everyone should listen to them when they say something that might sound intelligent when they think of it but is really just a waste of time when it actually comes out. kinda like Jessica Simpson's is it chicken or is it tuna question. the only reason that got any controversy is because it was dumber than a box of rocks. we cant shut them up but we can ignore them, as long as they grasp onto the concept that we don't care.

I am os bloody sick of hearing about how I should work harder, ro give more, and no less it should go to a foreign country!

Not to mention, he is too old to still be performing, and all the U2 songs sound exactly the same as they did 15 years ago, back when they were cool.

How many of us can truly say that we speak up for injustices in the world (ie. starving children in Africa, Darfur, AIDS in Africa etc...)? What was the saying...Evil prospers when good men do nothing? By shutting up good men, like Bono, evil will prosper. I say...let the good men speak !

I bet Bono gives his 10%, at least, point the finger at yourself and ask why you havent, if you havent. You are part of the prob or the cure. Simple.

Interesting. You posted a question on the same forum that his question was posted on. If you don't like it, why read it? I'd rather ponder on this than wonder about Paris Hilton's next big box office hit or who Lindsey Lohan's next boyfriend is.

stop seeing their movies & buying their music. frankly i dont want to hear their political opinions or any other opinion. by so ruins the movies and music they put out, people watch & listen to get away from that crap and now when they go to watch all they can think about is the bs that the artist was spewing out. look what happened to the dixie chicks. entertainers should just shuit the hell up and do what has gotten them the money and leave their opinions to themselves!

If you don't like him don't pay attention but to answer your question those who are rich and or famous are in a position to make their opinions heard because of the cult of celebrity. So as long as everyone is dying to know what they do it's not ending anytime soon.

Don't buy their records.

Not a damn thing... what else do they have to do. We pay them millions and millions of dollars to stand on a stage and screach. When they run out of things in their own life to screach about they turn to the world stage to"make a difference." It really is pathetic.

if they don't like living in America and supporting our president (whether they like him or not), they can move to other countries where no one can afford to buy their albums, see their movies, etc. They do have every right to say what they want, but not supporting our president can cause this country to be divided not united.

That's really all you can do, as everyone is free to express their opinion, make statements or start campaigns.

live and let live. you do not have to agree to what one does or how one does something. focal point is- someone's trying to do something. so to answer your question, you cannot do anything. unless, of course, you are as popular and as influential as they are you just might make them shut up
