New York, Feb 4 (DPA) Japan gifted Seiko clocks to each of the UN Security Council members to ensure punctuality at meetings, a demand that has eluded the organisation responsible for peace and security around the world. As Ambassador Yukio Takasu Tuesday handed the clocks to his 14 colleagues on the council, he assured them that the aim was not to promote Japanese products. The popular Seiko watches and clocks are appreciated for their accuracy and the name Seiko means precision and success.
'It's for the sake of effectiveness and promptness,' Takasu said, following the first council meeting for February, which was presided over by Japan.
UN diplomats are notorious for their tardiness.

No. Being tardy shows great disrespect for your fellow guests. The tardy ones can not be shamed nor educated to believe their behavior needs to be improved. I would hold the meeting without them. Wasting money is futile. The UN is a joke and should be moved out of the USA

Maybe if the clocks, or watches, had either text message or voice activated capabilities that would constantly remind a person.

Just some people feel their time is more important.

It's sort of a polite way to tell them how important it is to be on time. But all of them had clocks and watches before so it won't ensure anything. Maybe it will just help to remind them.

No, said tardies would probably put the clock on Ebay.

Only if you set the clocks 15 minutes fast.

No.

Basically if you are born before midday then generally you won't be late for dates, appointments or work. If you were born in the afternoon then you may be consistently 5-10 mins late for everything, if you were born after 6pm , you are always late and usually by at least 15 - 30 minutes.

That's my excuse and I was born at 10pm. :)

Great idea, although something portable like a watch would be better.
